Itadaki Street is a party board game series created by Dragon Quest designer Yuji Horii and published by Enix (later Square Enix). The series began with the 1991 Family Computer release and evolved to include major crossovers with the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises, such as the 2017 30th Anniversary edition. Players navigate a board to buy property, invest in stocks, and bankrupt opponents.
The series originated from a minigame concept designed during the development of
Dragon Quest III. The debut title,
Itadaki Street (1991), established the core gameplay loop on the Family Computer. Its sequel,
Itadaki Street 2 (1994) for the Super Famicom, refined these mechanics, introducing more complex board layouts and establishing the franchise as a multiplayer staple in Japan.
As the series transitioned to disc-based consoles,
Itadaki Street 3 (2002) on the PlayStation 2 modernized the visuals and expanded the roster of playable characters. While early entries remained exclusive to Japan, the series gained global exposure with
Itadaki Street (2011) for the Wii, which was localized in Western territories under the title
Fortune Street and featured characters from the Super Mario universe. The franchise celebrated its legacy with
Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary (2017) on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, which integrated crossover elements, character voice acting, and museum modes commemorating the histories of both RPG series.
