About

Luminous Arc is a franchise of tactical role-playing games that began with the release of Luminous Arc in 2007. It was followed by Luminous Arc 2 in 2008 and Luminous Arc 3: Eyes in 2009. The series is characterized by its grid-based tactical combat, anime-style character designs, and storylines revolving around conflict involving witches and magic.
Developed by Imageepoch and published by Marvelous Entertainment, the franchise debuted on the Nintendo DS. The original Luminous Arc (2007) introduced players to the struggle between the Luminous Church and the Witches, featuring extensive voice-acted cutscenes and online multiplayer battles via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Its localization was handled by Atlus in North America and Rising Star Games in Europe.
The sequel, Luminous Arc 2 (2008)—released in Japan as Luminous Arc 2: Will (2008)—expanded the tactical mechanics with the "Engagement" system, allowing the protagonist to bond with witches for stat boosts. This release also saw a special physical edition, Luminous Arc 2 [Cardboard Box; Soundtrack Included] (2008), which bundled the game with a promotional music CD featuring compositions by Yasunori Mitsuda's Procyon Studio.
The trilogy concluded on the platform with Luminous Arc 3: Eyes (2009), which introduced a school-life setting at the Urgald Academy and refined the relationship-building intermission sequences. Unlike its predecessors, this third installment remained exclusive to Japan. The series is recognized for its high-quality audio production, animated cutscenes, and strategic depth on handheld hardware.
