Difficulty Levels
There are three difficulty levels: Novice, Experienced, and Expert.
Novice Difficulty
You have 14 days to complete your safari list in each country. You can detect surrounding animals on your compass.
Experienced Difficulty
You have 10 days to complete your safari list for each country. You can see all safari animals on your compass, but they are also aware of your presence.
Expert Difficulty
You have only 7 days to complete your safari list in each country. You cannot detect game animals on your compass. This level is extremely difficult.
Menu Navigation
Main Menu
From the Main Menu, after choosing to save or load a new game, you can select:
Safari Hunt
This is the main game mode. When selected, you are taken to the lodge of the country you are hunting in. If playing for the first time, you will go to the lodge in South Africa.
Before reaching the lodge, you will see your safari list for the day. This list details the animals to hunt and the number required to complete the mission.
At the lodge, you can consult three characters:
Tracker
The tracker's menu provides a picture and description of every animal on the African Safari. The picture helps with identification, and the description details identifying markings, traits, and habits.
Porter
The porter's menu displays pictures of all available firearms. It shows their appearance, accuracy, distance, and damage compared to other firearms, and indicates which firearms are best suited for different animals.
Guide
The guide's menu is where you select hunts and get country information.
•
You will see the Hunt schedule, a list of areas to hunt and the animal for each.
•
Hunts are displayed on a timeline, showing the time allotted for each mission. Be mindful of time usage to complete all missions for the day.
Another option is to gather information about the country by pressing the country info button. This provides a general description of the country, landscapes, and landmarks.
You can also skip to the next day of the hunt from the guide menu. You can skip days and return to previous days to complete hunts. You can skip until day 14 (Easy), day 10 (Medium), or day 7 (Hard). After the last day, you can no longer earn Safari points for hunts.
Instant Hunt
This is the pick-up-and-play mode. Selecting Instant Hunt places you immediately in a hunting area with a randomly assigned animal objective.
Unlike Safari Hunt, you do not have access to the hunter's PDA for maps or tips from the tracker and porter. In Instant Hunt, you track and hunt the animal on your own.
Open Safari
Open Safari allows you to revisit and hunt specific areas or animals you enjoyed. This mode is only accessible after successfully completing the region in regular Safari Hunt.
Big Five
In this unlockable mode, you can choose one of the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, or elephant) and immediately hunt it. Hunts in this mode do not contribute to your regular Safari Hunt progress.
Wing Shooting
In wing shooting mode, you hunt African birds simulation-style. You flush birds from their habitat and attempt to shoot them down. Only shotguns are available, as rifles are not used for birds.
There are three wing shooting modes:
•
Practice: Practice shooting birds in different countries. Points accumulate for reference but do not count towards tournament scores.
•
Tournament: You are timed as you hunt in each of the five countries, aiming to take down as many specified birds as possible. Points are awarded for birds taken within the timeframe, and you can try to beat the tournament record.
•
Hot Seat: This is the game's only multiplayer mode. You choose the number of players and rounds. Players take turns on one controller, collecting points by shooting birds in each region.
Options
The options page allows you to control game settings:
•
Adjust music and sound effects volume in audio.
•
Choose your in-game control set (three options) in controls.
•
Turn the HUD, hit camera, and autosave on or off in the gameplay section.

Playing the Game
From the main Safari Hunt Mode, after choosing your settings and hunt from the Hunt Schedule, you will be placed in the selected region with your chosen animal. The first thing to identify is the "Heads-Up Display" or HUD.
HUD
•
Center Screen: If armed, you will see the firearm's reticle with crosshairs and two colored rings. These rings change from green to red in the presence of a dangerous animal or when your scope is centered on your target.
•
Top Right Corner: Your compass. It shows the four major directions for navigation.
•
A colored dot with a detection ring appears when an animal is in range.
•
Red dots indicate dangerous animals that are not your target. Shooting them incurs penalties.
•
Green dots indicate target animals.
•
Other compass indicators include boundaries, steep terrain, and water landmarks.
•
Bottom Right Corner: A meter indicating your current gun.
•
Far left: Rounds of ammunition remaining.
•
Middle: Shots left before reloading.
•
Bottom: Green meter showing Hunter Sense accumulation.
•
Bottom Left Corner: A gauge measuring your health statistics. The red bar at the bottom fills up, showing accumulated and used adrenaline.
