Voidrunner is Jeff Minter's second sequel to Gridrunner and throws you into the final battle of the droid wars. After their defeat in the Matrix Wars, the droids prepare a nuke to destroy Earth, so you're sent with a corps of pilots to their home planet to wipe them out. Gameplay feels close to Gridrunner and Centipede: enemies descend in patterns and must be shot down before they reach you, while the deadly zapper line pulses across the screen as an extra hazard. In true Minter style, you'll face not just droids but bizarre creatures like camels and goats. New to Voidrunner is the control of four ships instead of one, which start in formation but later split with inverted controls or different firing directions, adding both chaos and tactical depth.
