Gridrunner , a challenging action & adventure game for the Commodore 64, was released in 1970. You take on the role of a ship at the bottom of a grid, navigating towards a chain of pods that are moving in a zig-zag pattern. Your objective is to destroy the pods before they reach you, but be warned: as you shoot down dead pods, they remain on the screen, blocking your path with their corpses.
The game becomes even more complicated when two additional guns outside the grid start firing at you from beneath and from your left side. You'll need to strategically move into the grid to avoid these incoming attacks and make your way through the pod-chain. With twenty waves to complete, Gridrunner is a tough test of skill and strategy.
