Power Racer , a conversion of the arcade game Head On , is a challenging action & adventure game for the GameBoy console. The normal mode is a faithful recreation of the original, with a square race track featuring four lanes and obstacles to navigate around. Between corners, lane changes are necessary to avoid dots that must be picked up to progress to the next level. A rival car also appears on the track, attempting to crash into the player's vehicle.
The special mode adds an extra layer of complexity to the gameplay. With three difficulty levels and nine tracks, players must adapt to varying environments, such as different lane layouts, oil slicks that cause the car to spin, and conveyor belts. Power-ups, including a bomb, level skip, extra lives, shield, and enemy slow-down, appear randomly on the track and can be collected within a limited time frame. This mode allows for multiplayer gameplay with two human players.
