The story follows Kane, who is on his way to execution with another prisoner called Lynch. Their transport is attacked by a group of men, revealing that these attackers are Kane's old associates thought to be dead. They demand money from their last heist and take Kane's family hostage, forcing him to get the money quickly. To make matters worse, they hire Lynch, a medicated psychopath, as his watchdog.
From the moment the transport is hit, you control Kane, trying to free his family. The camera is placed behind Kane while moving, and you can also zoom into an over-the-shoulder view while firing. Kane will automatically take cover where possible, but if he's too badly wounded, a teammate must give him a shot of adrenaline to get him back into the fight.
Most of your time is spent shooting your way through hordes of police and special forces. You can carry two different types of weapons, from pistols to assault rifles and shotguns, to deal with them. You can also give Lynch commands like focusing his fire on one enemy, trading weapons with him, and getting ammo when you're out of it.
During the game, you'll sometimes be accompanied by other members of the organisation, whom you can interact with in the same way as Lynch. The game features an offline co-op mode, where the second player takes control of Lynch. The online multiplayer consists of a game-mode called "Fragile Alliance," where players must rob a bank. However, you can attack at any time, kill your teammates, and take the money they've collected. You'll then be marked as a traitor, and those who get killed will respawn as police, working against the team.
