The year is 1970, and the Vietnam War is raging on. For soldiers, it's already a living hell, but things take a turn for the worse when a US plane carrying a top-secret cargo codenamed "Whiteknight" crashes in the jungles of Cambodia. A Special Ops unit led by Sergeant Caleb Walker is sent to retrieve the cargo, but only one member returns - Cal. He's been driven insane by the events and now poses a threat to society.
Nate Walker, Cal's younger brother, is brought in to uncover information about "Whiteknight" from Cal, who's being held in quarantine due to a highly contagious virus. However, VC forces attack the outpost, and in the chaos, Cal escapes. Nate must now track down his brother, solve the mystery of "Whiteknight," and survive the treacherous terrain of the Vietnam War.
The player takes on the role of Nate and navigates through linear levels, fighting against Vietcong forces and other dangers. With a variety of firearms, including pistols, M16s, and mounted machine guns, Nate can hold off his enemies. However, if an enemy overwhelms him or in scripted situations, a quick time event begins, requiring the player to press buttons as fast as possible to survive.
Shellshock 2: Blood Trails continues its predecessor's trend of violence, gore, and horrific imagery. As with Shellshock: Nam '67 , this game doesn't hold back on delivering a intense experience for the player.
