Star Trek: Shattered Universe drops players into a parallel universe where the Star Trek Federation has turned evil. The USS Excelsior finds itself in this universe after hitting a wormhole, and it's up to the player to guide their ship through 19 missions of space combat.
Gameplay involves blasting through asteroid belts, passing space stations, and taking on scouting missions as well as heavy attacks. Players can switch between six new ships and two enemy fighter types: Romulan and Klingon fighters. The game requires strategy and quick thinking to overcome the challenges ahead.
