Beowulf: The Game is a hack-and-slash game based on Robert Zemeckis' animated movie adaptation of the poem Beowulf . Gameplay combines elements from the Tomb Raider and God of War series.
The player takes on the role of Beowulf, fighting his way through various episodes with his band of Thanes using a limited set of commands. Beowulf can chant with his band to boost morale and max out damage in a rhythm button-mashing mini-game. There are several more mini-games throughout the game, including some during combat sequences.
Beowulf's abilities include lifting and hurling enemies, alternating between weapons found on the ground or in racks, and entering Carnal Mode, which increases strength but demoralizes Thanes. Players must also navigate through certain areas, such as climbing walls and grabbing ledges, to progress. All characters are voiced by the original actors from the film.
