Michael Phelps: Push The Limit , a Kinect-only swimming game, was released on Xbox 360 on October 14th, 2011. In this game, players can experience four major competitive swimming styles: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. These styles can be played individually or as part of a career mode, where the player earns experience points after winning races to improve their swimmer's abilities.
The gameplay revolves around motion-control actions that the player must perform during different phases of a race: cheering the crowd, diving in, the actual racing, and finishing. Each phase requires distinct movements based on what is happening on screen. However, the athlete has limited stamina that depletes faster with more intense swimming movements. When performed correctly, a special energy bar fills up, providing an alternative to using stamina during the final stretch.
