Lichdom: Battlemage is a first-person action game with RPG elements where the focus is centered around casting and combining different spells. The player is given control of an mage with infinite power that can cast spells without any need of mana or rest.
The gameplay revolves around the player's choice of sigil, which determines the types of spells available to cast. Each attack has a unique effect that affects gameplay in various ways. Shields also come in three flavors, each offering different casting speeds and strategies.
The crafting system allows players to combine spells to produce better variants, with mechanics like spell upgrades, component retrieval, and a gamble system for testing luck.
The story follows the player's chosen gender, resulting in a slightly altered narrative that revolves around the quest for revenge by the dragon (the mage) and the gryphon (the scout) against those who killed their family members.
