Lock On is a jet fighter game that has the classic one man vs. the forces of evil formula. After a warlord threatens the nations of the world, the United Nations have recruited an ace pilot named Jake Steel to go after him and bring peace back to the world.

The player will take on various missions against both air and ground forces, flying four different aircraft: the British Tornado, Japanese FSX, A-10 Warthog and F-14 Tomcat. Each jet has its strengths, which can be used to gain an advantage over enemies such as enemy jet fighters, tanks and other foes scattered throughout each mission.

Extracted from the original game manual

Set in a turbulent 1990 where the collapse of the Soviet Union has flooded the black market with advanced military aircraft, this retro combat flight simulator tasks players with preventing the outbreak of World War III. Acting as a UN fighter pilot deployed to the Middle East, the player must take to the skies to intercept and destroy hostile, unidentified aircraft detected on their radar.



Story

The Night Before the Mission

The year is 1990. The world market has slid into recession, and the countries of the world, beginning with the more advanced nations, have slashed their military budgets.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, civil wars and disturbances break out everywhere. Guns and ammunition, instead of going through normal military channels, are being diverted to the black market. Among these weapons are some of the latest jet aircraft, planes that showed overwhelming power in the Gulf War.

The Threat of War

It looks as if the world is poised on the edge of the Third World War. Suddenly, fighter planes, country of origin unknown, violate the air space over an unknown country in the Middle East.

Innumerable blips appear on radar screens. The head of the government of the unknown country asks for the intervention of UN Forces.

Your Mission

Gentlemen, your mission is to defeat all of the planes you see on your on-board radar. Show your true colors, prevent the spread of this war, and stop the outbreak of World War Three.
