Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
In this platformer, players control Sora as he navigates world maps using his Keyblade to uncover prizes and engage in combat. The core gameplay loop revolves around interacting with the environment, such as climbing walls and striking doors to access a unique room creation system. By selecting specific cards with varying values, players generate new levels with unique layouts and challenges, requiring strategic planning to unlock subsequent areas.
Story
World & Field Maps
In addition to platforms and ladders, there are objects Sora can strike with the Keyblade or climb on to uncover prizes and cards. Try interacting with everything on the map.
Pressing the +Control Pad in the direction of a wall while jumping allows Sora to hang from the edge of high platforms. Use the following controls while hanging:
•
Press Up to climb up.
•
Press Down or the B Button to let go.
Strike an enemy with the Keyblade to stun them at the beginning of battle and gain the upper hand.
Prizes Sora can find in the field include:
•
HP.
•
Moogle Points. (See p. 17.)
Room Synthesis
Striking a door in the field with the Keyblade opens the Room Synthesis screen. You can return to the field by pressing the B Button. The cards you select here determine what kind of room you will explore next.
Even if a door has been opened, you can strike it again to create a new room in its place. When opening a door, the following criteria are displayed:
•
Map cards in Sora's possession.
•
Name of the selected map card.
•
Available values for the selected map card.
To open a door you must fulfill certain criteria, which vary from door to door:
•
A card with the value shown or higher.
•
A card with the value shown or lower.
•
A card with exactly the value shown.
•
Multiple cards whose total value exceeds the value shown.
•
A card of matching color.
•
A card matching the one shown.
The value of the card you use to create a room also affects the criteria of doors to surrounding rooms, so plan ahead when choosing your cards. Zero cards (marked 0) can be used to match any value.
There are special doors where you need to fulfill more than one criterion to open the door. The criterion you have already met will not reappear if you return to the field, but leaving the world altogether will cause all rooms and criteria to be reset.

How to Play
Game Overview
In Castle Oblivion, cards govern all aspects of gameplay. There are two general classes of cards: map cards for moving about the field, and battle cards for combat.
Map Cards
Map cards are necessary to advance the story. They must be used to reach rooms where story events occur. Once all events on a floor have happened, the next floor becomes accessible.
Battle Cards
Battle cards include many types that can summon allies, cast magic, or perform "sleights." You should customize decks to group frequently used cards or assemble those best suited for specific situations.
•
Map Cards: Used to move through the field.
•
Battle Cards: Used in combat for summoning, magic, or sleights.
World & Field Maps
Pressing SELECT in the field opens the world map. This screen shows how the world's rooms are connected and locates rooms where story events occur. You can also check Room Synthesis criteria from this map.

Tips & Maps
Making the most of enemy cards
Enemy cards activate lasting effects to make battle easier but require more CP, so you should carefully consider which ones to include in your deck to balance power and capacity.
Winning card battles
This section covers strategies for card breaks, the specific timing and risks of using zero cards, and the trade-offs between using premium cards for CP savings versus reloadable cards for defense.
Having trouble reloading?
To manage reloading under pressure, try reloading incrementally while moving, charge your counter when safe, or utilize specific enemy cards that allow reloading in motion.
Use sleights sparingly
While sleights and stock combos are powerful, they consume your reloadable card supply, so they should be used judiciously to avoid running out of cards.
Taking on bosses
Boss battles are highly challenging, so try rearranging your deck, utilizing card breaks, and making use of special trick cards that appear and disappear during the fight.
