About

Doctrine Dark, real name Holger, is a former tactical soldier who debuted in the 3D fighting game spin-off Street Fighter EX. Driven by a vendetta against Guile, his combat style in Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha, Street Fighter EX 2 Plus, and Street Fighter EX3 relies on military weaponry, including explosive mines and wire-based attacks.
Developed by Arika for their collaborative 3D fighting game venture with Capcom, this character's narrative origin stems from a military operation where his entire unit was decimated by Rolento. Surviving the massacre with severe physical injuries, he was fitted with a specialized respirator mask that defines his distinct visual design.
In Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha (1997), his gameplay introduced a highly technical, trap-oriented archetype to the franchise. Players utilize projectile-based setups to control the stage, a design that carried over into Street Fighter EX 2 Plus (1999) with refined combo mechanics. By the release of the PlayStation 2 launch title Street Fighter EX3 (2000), his moveset integrated tag-team mechanics, allowing him to execute devastating Meteor Combos alongside partners like Shadow Geist.
Because the character is intellectual property co-owned by Arika, his presence remains tied to this specific era of Capcom history. He eventually transitioned out of the mainline Capcom universe to appear in Arika's independent spiritual successor, Fighting EX Layer, cementing his legacy as a cult favorite of late-1990s fighting game design.
