About

Genome Soldiers are genetically modified military personnel who serve as the standard enemy guards in Metal Gear Solid (1998) and its associated demo releases. They underwent gene therapy using the DNA of Big Boss to enhance their combat senses and physical capabilities. During the Shadow Moses Incident, they act under the command of Liquid Snake and FOXHOUND to oppose Solid Snake.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, these adversaries introduced advanced tactical AI to the stealth genre, reacting to environmental cues like footprints in the snow, wet pathways, and suspicious noises. They patrol designated routes and utilize radio communications to initiate caution and alert phases when detecting intrusions.
Beyond the main release of Metal Gear Solid (1998), these enemies and their combat data feature across several promotional and peripheral releases. They appear in early gameplay slices on the Metal Gear Solid SharkByte Memory Card (1998) and the Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions Demo CD (1999). Their presence as the primary antagonistic force is also preserved in later promotional software, including the Metal Gear Solid Demo CD (2002). Furthermore, save data and promotional material featuring these characters are associated with third-party hardware releases, such as the Naki Ultimate SpiderMan Venom Wired Controller (2001) and the Naki Marvel Ultimate SpiderMan Venom Wired Controller 99507 (2001), which offered compatibility and themed memory features linked to the landmark stealth title.
