Jaunty is a key ally to the protagonist Mike LeRoi in the action-adventure game Shadow Man (1999) and its sequel Shadow Man: 2econd Coming. He is a deceased Irish human soul who was reincarnated in Deadside as a snake wearing a top hat. Serving as the guardian of the Asylum, he provides guidance, exposition, and dark humor to the player throughout their journey.
The character's origins trace back to the Valiant and Acclaim comic book series before transitioning into the interactive media of the Shadow Man franchise. Within the franchise's ludography, the character is associated with the early Shadowman Memory Card (1994) release, the critically acclaimed Shadow Man (1999), and the PlayStation 2 sequel Shadow Man: 2econd Coming (2000).
In the lore established across these titles, his backstory involves a mortal life as an occult student in Dublin, Ireland, who was murdered in a sacrificial ritual before being bound to his current form by the voodoo priestess Mama Brigitte. Voice actor Barry Meade portrayed the character in the 1999 release, establishing a distinct, theatrical Irish accent that became a signature element of the franchise's audio design. The character's presence was preserved for modern audiences in the 2021 remastered edition of the original game, which restored previously cut dialogue and expanded his interactions within the game's hub world.
