About

In the 1996 side-scrolling action game Skeleton Warriors, these undead soldiers serve as the primary enemies opposing the playable hero, Prince Lightstar. Transformed by the power of the Lightstar Crystal, they fight to conquer the planet Lumina. The characters originated from the 1994 animated television series of the same name.
Developed by Neversoft and published by Playmates Interactive Entertainment, the 1996 video game adaptation Skeleton Warriors brought these skeletal antagonists to the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Within the game's combat system, players must not only deplete the health of these undead foes but also use a soul-grabbing mechanic to permanently destroy them, preventing them from reforming. The enemy roster features diverse skeletal variants, including standard foot soldiers, armed guards, and powerful bosses like Claw, Dr. Cyborn, and Shriek, all serving under the command of Baron Dark.
The game's release, which included a prominent North American "Long Box" edition for the PlayStation, served as a major multimedia push alongside Playmates' popular toy line. Visually, the characters were rendered using pre-rendered 3D sprites set against 2D and 2.5D backgrounds, capturing the distinct aesthetic of the mid-1990s action figure designs. As one of Neversoft's earliest projects, the depiction of these enemies remains a notable footnote in the developer's history prior to their breakout success with the Tony Hawk's series, preserving the legacy of the short-lived dark fantasy franchise in interactive media.
