About

Specter is an albino monkey who gains genius-level intellect and telepathic powers after wearing an experimental Peak Point Helmet. In the Ape Escape franchise, including Ape Escape 2 and Ape Escape 3, he serves as the leader of the rogue monkey army. He plots to rewrite history and conquer humanity, requiring the series' protagonists to capture him and his minions.
The character's presence spans several key releases within the Ape Escape franchise, beginning with early appearances and references in titles like the homebrew release Super 4-in-1 Multicart (1990) and the action-platformer Super Valis IV (1993). These early iterations established the foundation for the character's recurring role as a primary antagonist within the series' expanded universe.
In Ape Escape 2 (2000), the character operates from a concealed fortress, directing the Freaky Monkey Five to distract the hero, Hikaru, while attempting to flood the world with cooling shampoo to make Earth habitable for his army. The character's tactical role expanded further in Ape Escape 3 (2000), where he partners with the human scientist Dr. Tomoki to establish Neo Teratopia. In this installment, he utilizes television broadcasts to brainwash the global population, forcing players to navigate movie-themed stages to thwart his broadcast network. Throughout these titles, the character represents the central gameplay objective, requiring specialized gadgets and strategic boss-fight tactics to defeat and contain.
