Avalanche Studios is a game development studio founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2003. The developer is highly recognized for creating the Just Cause franchise, including the original Just Cause (2006), Just Cause 2 (2010), and Just Cause 3 (2015). They are also the creators of the realistic hunting simulation franchise, The Hunter.
The studio's breakthrough came with the development of the open-world action-adventure series
Just Cause, which debuted with
Just Cause (2006) and has roots extending to
Just Cause (2000). This franchise established the developer's signature style of chaotic, physics-driven gameplay and massive sandbox environments. To cater to dedicated fans, the studio released the
Just Cause Collection [Classics] in 2013, bundling the early high-octane adventures of protagonist Rico Rodriguez.
The technological foundation for these worlds is the proprietary Apex Engine, which enabled the extreme verticality and destruction seen in
Just Cause 2 (2010) and
Just Cause 3 (2015). The latter received specialized releases, including
Just Cause 3 [Collector's Edition] (2015) and
Just Cause 3 [Gold Edition] (2015), which bundled various post-launch expansions. Alongside these explosive action titles, the studio's history includes unique publishing and distribution associations, such as the release of
Dragon's Crown [Special Edition] (2013). Through the continuous evolution of
The Hunter and
Just Cause franchises, the developer has secured a legacy of technical innovation in open-world design.
