The Black Hand of President Mendoza
Last week, a violent uprising in San Esperito's capital led to a coup, with military forces storming the Parliament building. Chaos and gunfire spread through the streets over a weekend of violence.
General Salvador Mendoza, leader of the uprising, is now the new president. His government claims to have "freed the nation from a pack of vultures feeding off the corpse of the national constitution."
Since becoming president, Mendoza has brought in "foreign security specialists" to subdue uprisings in unstable regions. When asked if these specialists were mercenaries, he responded, "I will not stand by idly as parasitic motherless dogs pillage my country."
U.S. Government Dossier Disclosed
A U.S. government dossier containing secret agency information was discovered this week. Security services are working to establish its source.
U.S. chiefs confirmed that a Top Secret U.S. Government Agency operative was arrested for contravening the Official Secrets Act and released pending further inquiries. More arrests are expected as the largest spy hunt in the U.S. in years continues.
El Presidente: U.S. Guilty of "Blatant Interference"
President Mendoza has accused the U.S. of supporting rebel causes. He stood firm against U.S. pressure to permit United Nations checks of his anti-drugs program.
Mendoza accused Americans of "blatant interference" after the U.S. hinted at its support for the rebels. The U.S. dismissed Mendoza's claims as "paranoid propaganda."
Violence in Provincia Mirasoles
Violence erupted in the village of Media Luna, Provincia Mirasoles, with clashes between Guerrilla forces (The People's Revolutionary Army of San Esperito - P.R.A.S.E.) and Mendoza's militia leaving five dead.
Revolutionary leader José Caramicas stated, "Mendoza is a rabid dog that should be put to death. We will not rest until our people are free."
Starting an Insurgency
Caramicas explained how to start an insurgency in Government-controlled settlements:
•
Start an attack on the defending forces (police/army).
•

•
Press the button when you see the action icon (page 9). •
Kill the Government forces to liberate the area and earn rewards and prestige points.
Following angry demonstrations, Government soldiers have occupied the area to deal forcibly with further uprisings. President Mendoza condemned the attack in Media Luna as the work of "rebel looters" and stated, "This behavior will not be tolerated."

Caramicas Jailed
José Caramicas, leader of The Peoples Revolutionary Army, was sentenced to El Grande Fort, the Government's penal institution. President Mendoza defended the verdict, saying, "The sentencing of this terrorist will end rebel violence!"
Caramicas' sister, Esperanza, called for a fair hearing, believing her brother is a victim of political conspiracy. She has appealed to the United States to intervene, and U.S. intelligence agencies are rumored to be monitoring the situation.
Caramicas, a popular hero in many provinces, will be escorted to the Fort under armed guard. Esperanza believes her brother's life will be in danger once he arrives at the prison.
