Bit Managers S.L. was a Barcelona-based development studio active in the 1990s and 2000s. The company specialized in handheld ports and adaptations, notably developing Metal Masters in 1993 and several titles in The Smurfs franchise. They also developed games based on other European properties, including Hugo and Spirou.
Established by former members of New Frontier, the studio built its reputation through a close partnership with French publisher Infogrames. This collaboration yielded the critically acclaimed 8-bit platformer
The Smurfs (1994), released across the Game Boy, Nintendo Entertainment System, and Sega Master System. The title's success led to subsequent adaptations, including
The Smurfs (1995) for the Game Boy, which solidified the studio's expertise in translating Franco-Belgian comic properties into side-scrolling adventures.
Beyond the Smurfs franchise, the team adapted other European media properties. They developed the Game Boy version of
Hugo (1995), based on the interactive Danish television show, and
Spirou (1996), another comic-book adaptation. Earlier, the studio demonstrated its technical capability with
Metal Masters (1993), a Game Boy port of the robotic fighting game. The developer also contributed to the Looney Tunes franchise with several handheld titles, utilizing their proprietary game engines to deliver fluid animations and precise controls on constrained hardware. This technical proficiency made them a preferred partner for international publishers seeking high-quality licensed games.
