FASA Studio was a development studio owned by Microsoft Game Studios. They are best known for developing the action-oriented flight combat game Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and the multiplayer first-person shooter Shadowrun. The studio was officially closed in 2007 shortly after the release of Shadowrun.
Originally established to bring popular tabletop properties to digital platforms, the developer focused on translating rich lore into action-heavy console experiences. The studio's work on the
Crimson Skies franchise defined its early Xbox contributions. Through
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (2003) and its 2004 iterations, the team delivered an alternate-history aerial combat experience that became a showcase for early Xbox Live multiplayer. This release saw several physical variations, including
Crimson Skies [Not For Resale],
Crimson Skies [Platinum Hits], and the
Crimson Skies [Not For Resale Cardboard Sleeve].
Following this success, the team transitioned to the cyberpunk universe of
Shadowrun (2007). This project reimagined the classic tabletop role-playing game as a team-based tactical shooter, notable for being one of the earliest titles to support cross-platform play between Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. Although the studio disbanded, its legacy persists through these specific adaptations, which helped establish Microsoft's early online gaming infrastructure and paved the way for future revivals of the classic FASA intellectual properties by successor studios.
