Ritual Entertainment was a video game development studio based in Dallas, Texas. The studio co-developed the 2006 urban third-person shooter 25 to Life, which was released across multiple platforms including PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Ritual is also known for its contributions to various action and shooter franchises during the late 1990s and 2000s.
Transitioning from its early PC origins, the developer's mid-2000s portfolio became heavily defined by its work on the gritty, urban shooter
25 to Life (2006). This project, which had roots tracing back to early conceptual iterations as
25 to Life (2000), eventually shipped in multiple formats, including the specialized retail package
25 to Life [with Bonus Music CD] (2006). The title attempted to capture the era's popular culture by blending third-person tactical shooting with hip-hop aesthetics and online multiplayer modes.
In addition to this core property, the studio provided critical development support for the explosive first-person shooter
Black (2006). Ritual's technical contributions extended across the game's entire lifecycle, encompassing the pre-release
Black [Demo] (2006), the final retail version of
Black (2006), and its highly successful budget-range re-releases,
Black [Platinum] (2006) and
Black [Greatest Hits] (2006). These projects showcased the studio's utility in optimizing destructive environmental physics and gunplay for major publishers. This era of intense action-game production marked the studio's final major run of console releases prior to its acquisition by casual game developer MumboJumbo in 2007.
