Founded in Paris in 2008 by former Monte Cristo developers, including company head Jehanne Rousseau, the studio established a niche in the mid-tier role-playing market. The team developed a signature style characterized by intricate companion mechanics, crafting systems, and morally grey narrative choices, often utilizing their proprietary Silk Engine.
The release of
Bound by Flame in 2014 showcased this design philosophy in a dark fantasy setting, focusing on a protagonist possessed by a fire demon. The studio then transitioned back to science fiction with
The Technomancer in 2016, a title set on a colonized Mars that expanded their tactical combat and faction-reputation systems.
In July 2019, French publisher Nacon acquired the company, shortly before the launch of
GreedFall later that year. This colonial-era fantasy title, along with its upgraded
GreedFall: Gold Edition in 2021, solidified the developer's reputation for creating expansive, story-driven worlds. The success of these releases allowed the studio to expand its production capabilities and secure its position as a prominent European RPG developer.
