About

In the 1994 beat 'em up The Ninja Warriors, energy-restoring pods help sustain the android protagonists during combat. In the futuristic shooter Shadow Master (1997), collecting energy pods replenishes the player's vehicle shields and weapon systems. In the racing game Drome Racers (2002), energy pods are gathered on the track to power up vehicle boosts and shields.
In The Ninja Warriors, these items are typically concealed within destructible environmental objects, such as crates and street fixtures. Because the game utilizes a strict single-plane perspective that limits vertical evasion, strategic retrieval of these containers is essential for completing stages, a design choice preserved in the 2019 remastered edition, The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors.
Within the surreal sci-fi aesthetic of Shadow Master, designed by fantasy artist Rodney Matthews, the pods are dropped by defeated biomechanical enemies or hidden within labyrinthine, three-dimensional alien ruins. This placement rewards players who thoroughly explore the verticality of the levels rather than rushing through combat encounters.
For Drome Racers, which adapted the Lego Technic toyline into a high-speed racing experience, the items appear as glowing canisters placed along optimal driving lines. Players must navigate hazardous multi-terrain tracks to collect them, integrating resource management directly into the high-speed driving physics. Across these diverse titles, the item serves as a fundamental mechanical tool that dictates player movement, environmental interaction, and survival strategy.
