Aniplex Inc. has published notable visual novels and indie titles, including the Type-Moon remakes Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon and Witch on the Holy Night. The company also handled the modern console releases of Onion Games' cult classic RPG Moon and the adventure game Ib.
Established as a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment Japan, the company's venture into boutique game publishing has bridged the gap between niche Japanese cult classics and global audiences. Through its partnership with developer Type-Moon, the publisher facilitated the high-profile revival of the Tsukihime franchise. This began with the Japanese launch of
Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon (2021) and its accompanying
Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon [Limited Edition] (2021), which completely overhauled the seminal 2000 visual novel with modernized visuals and expanded scenarios. This collaboration continued with the Western localization of
Witch on the Holy Night [Limited Edition] (2023), marking a milestone as the first Type-Moon visual novel to receive an official English translation.
Additionally, the company's distribution efforts preserved influential indie and retro titles. By publishing the Nintendo Switch port of
Moon (2019) and the physical
Moon [Premium Edition] (2020), they allowed international players to experience the 1997 "anti-RPG" in English for the first time. This commitment to celebrated indie properties was further demonstrated through the console publishing of the remastered psychological horror game
Ib (2024).
