Nihon Falcom is the creator and publisher behind the acclaimed Eiyuu Densetsu (The Legend of Heroes) franchise, including Sora no Kiseki FC, Sora no Kiseki SC, and their various compilations. Beyond this series, Falcom has published diverse titles such as the action-RPGs Popful Mail and Gurumin, as well as the tactical spin-off Vantage Master Portable.
Founded in 1981, the developer transitioned from PC-centric development to console and handheld platforms in the 2000s. This shift heavily featured the PlayStation Portable, which became the primary home for the
Eiyuu Densetsu sub-series. Following the release of
Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki FC (2006) and
Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki SC (2007), the company expanded the franchise's footprint with specialized fan discs and compilations. These included
Sora no Kiseki Material Collection Portable (2007) and its companion
Sora no Kiseki Material Collection Portable Mini (2007), which offered digital memorabilia, alongside the bundled release
Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora No Kiseki FC & SC Kanzenban (2007).
During this same era, Falcom ported and reimagined several of its classic properties. The tactical gameplay of
Vantage Master Portable (2008) brought the company's classic hex-based strategy to handheld audiences. This followed the release of the whimsical action-RPG
Gurumin (2006) on the PSP, showcasing Falcom's versatility beyond traditional turn-based role-playing. These releases, alongside legacy localizations of older titles like the Sega CD version of
Popful Mail (1994), established the publisher's reputation for intricate world-building, memorable soundtracks, and enduring RPG mechanics.
