Rebellion Developments Ltd. is an independent British video game developer and publisher based in Oxford, England. Founded by brothers Jason and Chris Kingsley, the company is highly regarded for its tactical shooter franchises, most notably the Sniper Elite series. In addition to video games, Rebellion also publishes comic books, including the sci-fi anthology 2000 AD.
Established in 1992, the studio initially gained industry prominence with the critically acclaimed 1999 release Aliens versus Predator. Over the following decades, the company expanded its portfolio through strategic acquisitions of other development studios and intellectual properties, transitioning into a major self-publishing entity.
A pivotal era for the company's publishing arm began with the release of
Sniper Elite V2 in 2012, a tactical shooter that revitalized their flagship intellectual property. This success led to the
Sniper Elite V2 [Game of the Year] edition later that year, followed by additional platform releases of
Sniper Elite V2 in 2013. Building on this momentum, the publisher launched
Sniper Elite III in 2014, supporting the title with a premium
Sniper Elite III [Collector's Edition] to cater to its growing fanbase.
Expanding into cooperative horror, the company spun off its popular undead-themed campaigns into the standalone release
Zombie Army Trilogy in 2015. This tactical cooperative shooter was accompanied by the specialized
Zombie Army Trilogy [Survivor Edition] in the same year. Through these releases, the company solidified its reputation for delivering detailed ballistics mechanics and cooperative multiplayer experiences.
