About

The Mario & Luigi series is a spin-off of the Mario franchise, consisting of comedic role-playing games where players control both brothers simultaneously. The series is represented by titles such as Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (also released as Dream Team Bros.), and the crossover title Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. These games feature turn-based combat with active timing elements and puzzle-solving in overworld exploration.
Developed primarily for Nintendo's handheld consoles, this RPG lineage began with Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which established the series' signature interactive Bros. Attacks. The franchise's popularity prompted extensive documentation, including Prima strategy guides for both the debut title and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
The dual-screen capabilities of the Nintendo DS were heavily leveraged in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (2009), where players navigated Bowser's body to assist him from within. This highly successful entry later distributed a specialized Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story [Not for Resale] version in 2012 for retail demonstrations.
Transitioning to the Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros (2013) explored the dreamscape of a sleeping Luigi, offering unique "Luiginary" attacks. Its commercial success led to its inclusion in the Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. [Nintendo Selects] budget range in 2014. The series culminated on the platform with Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros (2015), a crossover that merged the traditional art style with the paper-thin aesthetics of the Paper Mario universe, introducing Paper Mario as a third playable character to solve paper-based puzzles.
