About

The series began with the release of Sniper Elite in 2005. Players assume the role of Karl Fairburne, an American OSS agent disguised as a German sniper during World War II. The franchise is well-known for its tactical stealth mechanics and its signature 'X-Ray Kill Cam' system.
Developed by Rebellion Developments, the franchise expanded significantly following its initial releases, which included Sniper Elite (2005) and its alternative editions like Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945 (2006). The series gained wider commercial success with the release of Sniper Elite V2 in 2012, which served as a modern reimagining of the original game. This was followed by Sniper Elite III in 2014, which shifted the setting to North Africa, and Sniper Elite 4 in 2017, set in Italy. The fifth mainline installment, Sniper Elite 5, was released in 2022, featuring environments set in France.
In addition to the mainline historical entries, the franchise spawned a successful cooperative spin-off series, Zombie Army, which introduced supernatural elements. Gameplay across the series emphasizes realistic ballistics, requiring players to calculate wind resistance, gravity, and heart rate before taking shots. The franchise has also transitioned to virtual reality with Sniper Elite VR in 2021. Over its lifespan, the series has sold millions of copies globally, establishing Rebellion Developments as a prominent independent studio.
