About

Super Donkey Kong is the Japanese name for the Donkey Kong Country franchise, beginning with the 1994 Super Famicom release Super Donkey Kong. The series continued with Super Donkey Kong 2 in 1995 and Super Donkey Kong 3: Nazo no Krems Shima in 1996. These games were later ported to the Game Boy Advance between 2003 and 2005 under the same Japanese titles.
Prior to the official Nintendo franchise, the name appeared in the 1982 unofficial release Super Donkey Kong [Homebrew]. However, the official series established by developer Rare utilized groundbreaking Advanced Computer Modelling technology to pre-render 3D models into 2D sprites. This graphical innovation debuted in Super Donkey Kong (1994), introducing players to the Kong Family's quest to recover their stolen banana hoard from the Kremling Krew.
The gameplay formula expanded in Super Donkey Kong 2 (1995), which shifted the narrative focus to Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, introducing more complex level design, collectible Kremkoins, and a pirate theme. The original trilogy concluded on the Super Famicom with Super Donkey Kong 3: Nazo no Krems Shima (1996), featuring Dixie and Kiddy Kong exploring the Northern Kremisphere.
Decades later, Nintendo migrated these titles to handheld hardware. The Game Boy Advance versions—Super Donkey Kong (2003), Super Donkey Kong 2 (2004), and Super Donkey Kong 3 (2005)—retained the core side-scrolling platforming of the originals while introducing exclusive multiplayer minigames, altered soundtracks, and revised world maps to accommodate the portable format.
