In 2032, aliens invade Earth, and humanity fights back but is vastly outnumbered. With numbers dwindling, one last hope appears: Black Rock Shooter , a young girl who is also the most powerful biological weapon ever created. She joins forces with the remaining humans to repel the alien invasion and save the planet.
Black Rock Shooter is an action-RPG based on the anime of the same name. The player controls Black Rock Shooter as she explores a battle-ravaged landscape, where enemies will approach her when they notice her presence. When close enough, the game switches to battle mode, which is similar to a rail shooter rather than traditional turn-based battles.
During battle, enemies attack in real time. The player controls a cursor to aim Black Rock Shooter 's rock cannon and shoot freely, block, dodge, use items, and special skills, but she cannot move around the battlefield freely. Certain actions increase a heat gauge, which lowers if she rests. If the gauge gets too high, she becomes temporarily unable to attack.
The game is divided into stages, each containing missions and optional objectives. The stage ends when these missions are cleared. Optional objectives reward the player with additional abilities and unlockable bonuses like weapons, costumes, and concept art. Completed stages can be replayed to complete additional objectives.
