Wrestle Kingdom is a licensed wrestling game using a modified version of the engine used for the WWE: Day of Reckoning series. The gameplay is a mix of a realistic wrestling simulation with some arcade action elements. The career mode is called the Drama mode. Players create a wrestler and train under top stars to earn a promotion. By training the stats are improved and that makes it possible to unlock new moves.
The story follows a traditional wrestling narrative, where players take on the role of a rookie wrestler trying to make their way through the ranks. The roster includes wrestlers from New Japan Pro-Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah, as well as legends and freelancers. This variety brings different wrestling styles to the table.
The gameplay is engaging, with a focus on both realistic movements and exciting finishing moves. Players can choose from a variety of moves to use in matches, including some that are exclusive to certain characters. The game also features an arcade mode, where players can compete against AI opponents in a more fast-paced environment.
