The evil King Lion has crowned himself as the master of Fuun-Ken, a new style of martial arts that includes throwing weapons in addition to hand-to-hand combat. This does not sit well with the rest of the Fuun-Ken fighters around the world, so they all decide to beat each other up in classic 2 round fights to decide who gets to get down with King Lion himself.
Savage Reign is a one-on-one 2D fighter in which you select your character and try to defeat all challengers using your basic attacks and special moves. The game features 2 different horizontal planes to which the characters can freely jump to in order to avoid attacks. You cannot escape completely however, as all characters have a throwing weapon they can use in different ways to reach each other no matter where they are.

This is a fighting game where players choose from a diverse cast of martial artists in the futuristic Jipang City. They compete in the "Beast God Martial Arts Tournament" to prove their strength, defeat the mysterious Shishio, and claim eternal wealth and the title of hero.
Story
Prologue
It is the first half of the 21st century, and the setting is "Jipang City." All kinds of people and cultures from all over the world mingled there, creating a unique world.
Perhaps because of this, in this city, completely new styles of martial arts, which were unimaginable in the 20th century, were being created one after another.
Then one day, a mysterious man suddenly made a statement during a TV broadcast. "My name is Shishio. I am a warrior who bears the name of the strongest on earth."
"If there is anyone who claims to be the strongest, come to the 'Beast God Martial Arts Tournament' that I host! Those who successfully survive will be given the right to fight me."
"And if by any chance, someone defeats me, they will be granted eternal wealth and the title of hero."
As if stimulated by these words, fighters from all over the world gathered one after another. For honor, for revenge, or for loved ones, with their respective thoughts in their hearts, the curtain on the battle now rises!
How to Play
Memory Card Backup
This game allows you to back up multiple progress data using a separately sold memory card. Insert the memory card securely into the Neo Geo console's memory card slot.
Load (Data Recall) Method
If the memory card is correctly set, the "Load Selection Screen" will be displayed before the game starts. Select the data you want to load with the lever and press the A button to continue playing from that data.
Save (Data Recording) Method
If the memory card is correctly set, the "Save Selection Screen" will be displayed after game over. Select the save location with the lever and press the A button to record your progress data there.
If the data is full and there is no space to save, select data that can be erased and press the A button. It will automatically be overwritten with new data.
Card Formatting (Initialization)
New memory cards are not formatted (initialized). Please be sure to format them according to the following procedure before use.
•
Correctly set your Neo Geo cassette and memory card into the Neo Geo console.
•
While simultaneously pressing the A~D buttons on the 1P controller, press the reset button on the Neo Geo console.
•
When the "Data Screen" appears on the TV, select "Card Format" with the lever.
•
Press the A button to complete the format.
How to Start the Game
1 Title Screen
Correctly set the ROM cassette in the Neo Geo console, turn on the power, and the title screen will be displayed. At this time, press the start button on the controller. The screen will change to the mode select screen.
2 Mode Select
Select "GAME START" with the lever and confirm with the A button.
3 Character Select
After the operation demo plays, select the character you want to use on the character select screen. Choose from 10 characters with the lever and confirm with the A button.
If you confirm with the B button, you can play with a different colored character.
4 Game Start!!
The match is a best-of-three. The first to win two rounds wins. Aim to defeat "Lion King"!!
About Game Data Load Selection
This game allows you to save up to three progress data on a memory card (sold separately). If you are using a memory card, after selecting "GAME START" on the mode select screen, the "Load Selection Screen" will be displayed.
Select the data you want to load with the lever and confirm with the A button. You can then play from the continued stage.
About Option Mode
When on the mode select screen, select "OPTION" with the lever and press the A button to confirm, and the option screen will appear. Use the lever up and down to select an item, and use the lever left and right or the A/B buttons to change the setting. Press the A button on "EXIT" to return to the mode select screen.
① Level Select (LEVEL)
You can choose from 4 levels of computer strength: EASY (weak), NORMAL (standard), HARD (strong), and MVS (very strong). Use the lever left and right or the A/B buttons to select.
② Game Speed Select (GAME SPEED)
You can choose the character's action speed. The speed increases in the order of 90%, 100%, and 120%. Use the lever left and right or the A/B buttons to select.
③ Language Select (LANGUAGE)
You can choose from 3 languages for the game screen display: Japanese, English, and Spanish. Use the lever left and right or the A/B buttons to select.
④ Button Select (BUTTON SELECT)
Press the A button here to switch to the button setting change screen. You can choose from 3 types of operation settings for each button on the controller: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. Use the lever to select your preferred button setting and press the A button to confirm, then return to the option screen.

2P Battle & Mid-game Participation
If both 1P and 2P press the start button on their controllers, a 2P battle can be played (same character battles are also possible).
Only during 2P battles, the attack power of the character in use can be changed in 5 stages. After character selection and confirmation, select the attack power with the left and right levers and confirm with the A button.
During a computer battle, if you press the start button on the controller that is not being used, you can enjoy a 2P battle by joining mid-game. In 2P battles, prestigious titles such as "Master" or "Expert" will be given depending on the number of people you defeat.

Line Movement Attack
Tips & Maps
Line movement attack
Attacks that utilize the 2-line system with platforms at the top (back) of the screen. The basic controls are the A+B button or the D button, and can be combined with lever inputs for variety.
Step Line Attack
Move quickly to the right or left, then perform a line movement attack by pressing ↘ or ↙ + AB or D. This can confuse your opponent.
Big Jump Line Attack
Jump high to disappear from the screen and then drop onto your opponent's head by pressing ↑↑ + AB or D. This is effective against distant opponents.
Super Line Attack
A powerful line attack, performed by pressing →→ + AB or D (when facing right), that reliably hits even distant opponents.
Attack Evading Line Movement
Fly in a direction where there is no opponent and evade attacks by pressing ← + AB or D (when facing right).
Bonus Game
A bonus stage that appears between game progressions. Within the time limit, use weapon throws and line movement attacks to smash all falling fishing bells and other unexpected items.
Enemies & Characters
HAYATE
A master of "Fuun-ken," which combines karate and boomerang. He participates in the "Beast God Martial Arts Tournament" to become the strongest man.
EAGLE
An undefeated American wrestler who enters the tournament after seeing "Lion King" on TV, believing he resembles his missing brother.
GOZU
A ninja from the "Jaga" organization who uses fire-style ninjutsu. He enters the tournament seeking revenge against the organizer, "Lion King."
CAROL
A beautiful martial artist skilled in "Gymnastics Arts." She participates in the tournament to defeat "Shishio" and break off an unwanted engagement.
MEZU
A ninja from the "Jaga" organization, and Gozu's brother, who uses water-style ninjutsu. He enters the tournament with Gozu to avenge their younger brother, Kazu, who was murdered by "Lion King."
NICOLA
The hidden child of the great ZaZa Company, a genius boy with an IQ of 600 who obtained his doctorate at the age of 10. He wears a protective suit he developed himself and uses Sambo, which he learned on his own.
JOKER
The leader of a shadowy organization that unites outlaws ostracized from society. He wields tricky, self-taught fighting techniques and street performance tools like playing cards and surprise boxes as weapons.
CHUNG
He was once an undefeated martial artist and apparently had a conflict with "Lion King" in the past. He gets angry when his hat is blown off, as it was given to him by a fighter called "Legendary Wolf" when he was young.
GORDON
He is feared by criminals in the city for his rough temperament and strength. His beloved daughter has fallen ill with an incurable disease, and a huge amount of money is needed for her surgery.
SHISHIOH
The strongest man on earth, shrouded in mystery, who suddenly appeared in public, declared himself the strongest, and announced the holding of the "Beast God Fighting Tournament."
