Hotel Transylvania is based on the 2012 Sony Pictures Animation movie, where players take on the role of Mavis , the teenage daughter of Count Dracula. Mavis' quest begins when she discovers her new friend Johnny is in danger at the hands of evil master chef Quasimodo.
The gameplay for both Nintendo 3DS and DS versions follows a simplistic side-scrolling platform approach, guiding Mavis through the hotel to defeat various monsters along the way. Players control Mavis' movement using the control pad (and Circle Pad on 3DS), with B used for jumping and A for walking.
Interacting with characters and objects throughout the hotel is also crucial, as players use the A button to achieve this. As the game progresses, Mavis will unlock special moves, such as the Trance Stare, which freezes monsters in their tracks, allowing her to progress further.
The game also features an Extras menu on both versions, containing 10 bonus levels and concept artworks from the film to unlock throughout the game.
