The story of Prey: An Alien Encounter follows the player's mission to rescue as many colonists as possible from asteroid KG-42. Contact with the colonists was lost, and it's up to the player to reach them before their oxygen supply runs out due to toxic gas in the corridors.
The gameplay of Prey: An Alien Encounter is an action-packed adventure that requires the player to navigate through pre-rendered video footage of corridors and halls. Using a map, players can find rooms containing survivors, receive updates on mission objectives from radio contact, and fight against hostile aliens that are the source of the disturbance in the asteroid.
