Antz Extreme Racing is set in a world where the characters from the movie Antz are feeling bored and decide to start a racing championship. Each character has eight individual courses and challenges they must complete, with the exception of the first two which can be unlocked by completing the game with another character. The gameplay features various power-ups that players can collect, such as rockets or protective shields, which give them an advantage on the tracks. Players can choose from four basic race types: driving the backs of larger bugs, running, flying on the backs of bugs, or surfing on a leaf.
The game also offers a four-player split-screen multiplayer mode, allowing friends and family to compete against each other in local racing action.
