Gungrave follows the story of Grave, a hitman who has been brought back from the dead to wipe out an endless stream of enemies. In a world where humans have been nearly wiped out by a deadly virus, Grave must navigate through massive areas filled with relentless foes.
The gameplay revolves around intense shootouts, with players battling their way through hordes of enemies using two weapons and a coffin that can be used as a rocket launcher. The game's repetitive beat is driven by the constant use of the rapid fire option or the pounding down on the square button.
Players must strategically use special shots, which are limited to each level, and also make use of a targeting system to take down enemies with precision.

Game Guide
Extracted from the original game manual
This is a third-person shooter game where players control Grave, an undead gunman, as he battles a criminal syndicate and mutant creatures in a dystopian, multi-tiered city. The player's goal is to uncover the truth behind a mysterious girl and the syndicate's boss, Harry, through intense gunfights and exploration.
Story
Introduction
Rain turns to snow as it falls through the city. Everything begins in tranquility.
In a back street, a mysterious girl drags a huge attaché case, leaving a trail of blood. Her appearance awakens a killer named Grave, who wields twin guns called "CERBEROS."
The Syndicate and its mutant bosses, along with pale humanoid creatures, stand in Grave's way. Can you uncover the connection between Harry, the Syndicate's big boss, and Grave, and expose the mysterious girl?
In this colossal city, uniting sky and earth, you will witness Death in human form howl. The roar of an anguished soul terminates everything, turning into a rave of bullets.
Setting
Somewhere in space, there is a planet of unknown age and exact location. A colossal city sprawls across it, with every building snuggled against a mysterious, lofty tower at its center.
People live in separate strata, rarely leaving their sections.
•
The higher strata are occupied by a select elite, secluded from the majority.
•
The lower layers are home to violence and bloodshed.
•
Beneath everything lie ancient corpses, decaying but still supporting the enormous city.
