MUD: FIM Motocross World Championship is a racing game that focuses on action rather than simulation. It is licensed and features the original teams, vehicles, courses, and athletes from the FIM Championship. The heart of the game is the Mud World Tour, which is a career mode. By being successful at events, the player earns money that can be invested in improving their driver's statistics, equipment, or upgrading to better cars. Each driver has strengths and weaknesses for certain events, making them more valuable as players.
The other playing modes include single races, playing the Championship (either MX1, MX2, or custom), or participating in freestyle events where the player needs to perform stunts to gain points. In regular races, tricks are limited to a single move that can be performed while airborne, with correct timing resulting in a speed boost and incorrect timing leading to a loss of progress.
The game also features multiplayer mode, allowing for up to 12 players in races.
