The story of Root Letter takes place in 1999, where you play as Akira Otonashi, a high school student who receives an old answering machine from his childhood friend, Natsuki. As he listens to the tapes, he discovers a mysterious message that leads him on a journey to uncover the truth about his past and the town's dark secrets.
Gameplay-wise, Root Letter is a visual novel where you make choices that determine the story's progression. With each new day, you'll receive a new set of letters from Natsuki, which will lead to multiple endings depending on your decisions. The gameplay is heavily focused on storytelling and character development, with a unique approach to time management.
