Speedball

As the manager of Speedball, you're tasked with transforming the fortunes of Brutal Deluxe, a hapless team that's struggled to make an impact. Your job is to guide them through the league system, which consists of two 8-team divisions and cup tournaments, including a two-legged challenge where the aggregate score decides who progresses.

The gameplay itself is fast-paced and frantic, with a futuristic twist. Matches consist of two 90-second periods, during which heavy tackling is encouraged to retrieve the ball. Power-ups and tokens appear on the pitch, offering bonuses such as increased player toughness or temporary stalling of opponents.

The sides of the pitch feature score multipliers that can be activated by running the ball through them. However, opponents can sometimes intercept the ball, nullifying this advantage. Star-shaped symbols also dot the pitch, worth 2 points each if hit and potentially more with a multiplier in effect. These can be canceled out by opponents, but their point values become set after the first half.

Portals on either side of the pitch can send the ball flying to the opposite end, while random silver tokens are scattered throughout the field, offering cash rewards for collection. Between matches, you can spend this money to upgrade your existing players or bring in new talent. However, there's a limit to how much each player can be improved.

During the match, various tokens will appear, including some that grant temporary boosts to your team and others that freeze opponents in place. Managing your team effectively is crucial to success in Speedball.
