This version of GoldenEye 007 brings forward the concept from the original N64 exclusive to modern times, moving Daniel Craig's Bond into the spotlight. Pierce Brosnan's character will remain a classic from the N64 era. This GoldenEye is more like a reboot than a remake or port of the title.
The game updates the story with James Bond fighting to stop a rogue Russian General from unleashing the GoldenEye weapon. The new version has a grittier tone and modernized elements, such as updated character motivations and a high-tech watch replaced by a smartphone. Character designs have also been updated.
The gameplay is more in-line with its contemporaries, using dual-analog style controls. It emphasizes stealth and espionage-oriented gameplay, allowing multiple ways to complete missions. The game also features third-person vehicular elements, like the tank chase sequence from the film.
Multiplayer mayhem returns with split-screen mode, along with modernized online gameplay for up to eight players. Classic Bond villains like Jaws, Scaramanga, and Oddjob appear in multiplayer, along with characters from the main game. The game features fifty playable characters, ten maps, three gameplay modes, and seventeen "modifiers".
