Ys II follows Adol Christin's friend Dogi as he returns home to Redmont after hearing about strange occurrences in his hometown. Adol soon joins him on this journey and uncovers the source of the evil plaguing the town.
The gameplay in Ys II marks a significant departure from its predecessors, introducing a new side-scrolling battle system that allows Adol to control his sword in various directions. The game also features magical rings that grant Adol special abilities, such as healing and shielding. Additionally, the use of key items found throughout the game helps to progress the story and solve minor puzzles.
