The story of Katamari Forever begins when the King of All Cosmos loses his head due to a mishap, causing him to suffer from amnesia. An evil robot version of the king, known as RoboKing, is constructed by the cousins and prince, who must then embark on a mission to save the universe by rolling up junk once again. As he progresses through the game, Prince Peach-like character, the Prince, rolls up objects that are smaller than him, aiming to become big enough to become a star.
The gameplay in Katamari Forever is similar to its predecessors, with an emphasis on rolling up objects and navigating through levels. The revisited levels take place inside the king's head and feature black and white graphics, requiring the player to colour the dreams by rolling all over them.
