The story mode is suitable for single players who can determine the narration of the entire game by making choices for the two protagonists. The game is paused and resumed via the smartphone app, and new characters, plot progress, and ripple effects get marked, which can be checked on the smartphone app. Interaction with the game story is done in various ways, depending on the scene in question. Players can choose actions to perform or how their character responds to questions. Clue searching scenes prompt players to find clues within a limited time, quick-time events require them to quickly drag the cursor to a point of interest, and sometimes players can shoot at the character on the screen. Doing nothing in interactions is also an option.
Key choices in the game that affect the story significantly are called ripple effects. These changes are marked on the smartphone app and added to the logbook for players to check at any time during gameplay, whether the game is paused or not. The story is split into three chapters overall, with all ripple effects displayed between each chapter.
