The story of Deadly Creatures is shrouded in mystery, with two humans appearing only as brief glimpses from above, guiding the player's journey through the desert and a gas station. The world is inhabited by a variety of insects, which serve as enemies for the game's dual protagonists.
The gameplay revolves around the player controlling a spider and a scorpion, switching between them to exploit their unique abilities. Special moves are triggered using the Wii-remote and nun-chuck, while defeating enemies earns points that unlock new moves for both creatures. Each animal has its own distinct moveset, such as the spider's web-shooting and jumping, or the scorpion's deadly sting.
The level design takes advantage of the animals' ability to walk along walls, adding a unique twist to the fighting game genre. Save points are scattered throughout each stage, and health is replenished by eating certain insects. Collecting rare green insects can also grant bonus concept art galleries as rewards.
