Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is the fifth game in the Donkey Kong Country series and was released exclusively for Nintendo Wii U. The game was later ported to the Nintendo Switch.

The story begins as Donkey Kong's family celebrates his birthday, but their celebration is interrupted by an invasion fleet of arctic creatures known as Snowmad. The island where they live is frozen over, and the enemy flagship takes position on top of it. To take back their home, Donkey Kong and his friends must set off on a mission to defeat the invaders.

The game is a side-scrolling platformer in 2D view, where you can control Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong, each with their own special abilities. Collecting K-O-N-G letters and puzzle pieces offers an extra challenge, while navigating through the island's regions, you'll encounter various enemies and bosses. You can collect bananas to earn extra lives, with every 100 bananas awarded one extra life.

The Switch version of the game includes a new mode called Funky Mode , starring Funky Kong, who has superior health compared to the other playable characters. In this mode, players can unlock new gameplay updates and an alternative way to play using Funky's unique abilities.
