When hit by an opponent's attack, your Pokémon's status might be affected; you can use items or visit a Pokémon Center to recover. Poison gradually decreases HP and shakes the screen, Paralyze decreases Speed and hinders Moves, Sleep prevents fighting until waking, Ice freezes the Pokémon until it thaws, Burn decreases HP and Attack, Confuse causes self-attacks which heal when sent back to the Poké Ball, and Faint occurs when HP reaches 0.

Place the Pokémon you want to raise on the left side of your Party and switch out immediately upon entering battle to let it receive Experience Points from victories. Repeating this allows you to steadily increase the Level of a weak Pokémon.

Pokémon received from trade get a larger-than-normal portion of Experience Points. However, if their Level is too high, they may not listen unless you have the right Badges.

An older couple will raise up to two of your Pokémon for a small fee, but it takes time, so you must wait before checking on them.

Some Pokémon change form when certain conditions are fulfilled, such as increasing Level, using an Evolution Stone, or being traded.

If you leave a compatible couple of Pokémon at a Day Care, you may return to find an Egg.

This new area becomes accessible after entering the Hall of Fame and offers many different Pokémon battles with unique rules. You can challenge seven facilities to obtain symbols and earn Battle Points (BP) to exchange for prizes.

Technical Machines (TM) allow Pokémon to learn new Moves but can only be used once, whereas Hidden Machines (HM) can be used repeatedly. Different Pokémon can learn different Moves.

Hidden Moves allow you to perform field actions: CUT cuts down trees, FLY returns you to a visited town, SURF lets you cross water, STRENGTH pushes heavy rocks, FLASH lights up dark caves, ROCK SMASH breaks blocking rocks, WATERFALL climbs waterfalls, and DIVE lets you move underwater. Moves like DIG escape caves, and SECRET POWER allows climbing trees or opening walls. Even fainted Pokémon can use these, but certain Badges are required for HMs.

Pokéblocks are candy that increase the Conditions of Pokémon, with higher quality leading to higher conditions and better reputation at Contests. They are made by blending Berries in a Berry Blender and given to Pokémon using a Pokéblock Case.

Use a Berry Blender to mix Berries, pressing the A Button with exact timing to increase speed and quality, as the combination determines the Pokéblock's color. Since each Pokémon has a favorite color, try feeding various types, and you can also create them with friends.
