Tropico 4 is a game where you take on the role of the dictator of a fictional tropical island. You build up the island to function both economically and politically, while also maintaining your power. The gameplay mechanics are similar to Tropico 3 , with a focus on building structures such as mines, schools, hotels, and army training facilities.
The game begins with typical strategy elements: constructing buildings to meet the needs of your state and people. You'll need to decide whether to focus on production or tourism, depending on the island's needs. As you progress, you'll shift your attention to politics and making tough decisions that will affect diplomatic relations and public opinion. Angry citizens can become rebellious or even violent if their demands aren't met, leading to potential election problems or palace attacks. Having a strong army is crucial, but don't worry – you won't be controlling it directly. Instead, your avatar will take the reins, performing special tasks and making key decisions.
The game features a 20-mission campaign with scripted events and political decisions, as well as a free-play mode where you can experiment without constraints. New additions to the series include a revamped trading system, 20 new buildings, disasters, and a request system that adds a fresh layer of complexity to the gameplay.
